Range Repair - Questions We Get Asked
The dual-stacked burner runs a separate low-output ring, and its ports are finer than the main ones. They clog with carbon long before the burner looks dirty. Nine times out of ten a proper port service and simmer calibration fixes it without any parts.
Turn the range off at the shut-off valve and stop using it. Continuous clicking on all burners means the shared spark module has failed on a stuck output - gas can be released without igniting. It is a same-visit repair, but not one to postpone.
Usually the sensor or thermostat has drifted, sometimes it is the control board. We measure real cavity temperature with our own probe before replacing anything, because recalibration often solves it and costs far less than a board.
Yes. Genuine Wolf red knobs and bezels are available and we fit them. It is one of the most common cosmetic requests we get, and it is worth doing properly - a knob that binds is often a valve problem in disguise.
With dual convection there are two fans and two elements, so it can be a slow fan, a failed element leg, a drifting sensor, or a door seal that has flattened on one side. We test all four rather than guessing - they produce an identical complaint.
Most finish in one visit. We carry igniters, spark modules, sensors and the common burner components. A control board or a full burner assembly occasionally needs a second appointment once the part arrives.
Almost always. These are commercial-grade gas appliances with excellent parts support, and the cooktop half in particular is built to be rebuilt. We will tell you honestly if the economics stop working.

Wolf Range Repair in Tampa - what the job actually involves
A Wolf range is really two appliances bolted together: a gas cooktop built around dual-stacked sealed burners, and a dual convection oven with its own electronics. They fail in completely different ways, which is why a single symptom rarely tells the whole story. We diagnose each half on its own terms rather than replacing the first part that looks suspect.

01
How Wolf ranges fail
The signature Wolf burner is dual-stacked: a high-output ring for searing and a separate low ring that carries the simmer. That second stage is what most owners notice first when something goes wrong, because a burner that sears perfectly can still refuse to hold a low flame. The usual culprit is not the valve but the small ports feeding the low ring - they are finer than the main ports and they clog with carbon and boil-over residue long before the burner looks dirty from the outside.
Ignition faults follow a different pattern. Each burner has its own electrode, but all of them share a spark module. When one burner clicks and the rest behave, the electrode or its ceramic insulator has usually cracked. When every burner clicks continuously and none of them light - including after you turn the knob back off - the module itself has failed and is sparking on a stuck output. That distinction matters: one is a fifteen-minute part swap, the other means the range should not be used until the module is replaced.
The oven half is a dual convection design with a third element wrapped around each fan. Because two fans and two elements share one cavity, uneven baking is rarely caused by the sensor alone. A fan that has lost speed, a convection element with a broken leg, or a door seal that has flattened on one side will all produce the same complaint - "one side browns faster" - and only a direct test separates them. We measure real cavity temperature with our own probe at three points rather than trusting the display.
Electronic control boards on Wolf ranges are robust but not immune. The failure we see most in Tampa is not age, it is surge damage: a relay that no longer closes cleanly, so the oven heats intermittently or the display resets mid-cycle. On a dual-fuel model the same board also governs the electric oven element, which is why a board fault can look like a dead element.
02
Problems we fix
- A burner clicks repeatedly but never lights
- The simmer setting will not hold a low flame, or drops out entirely
- Flame burns yellow or lifts away from the burner ports
- Every burner clicks at once, even with the knobs off
- Oven runs cold, or takes far longer to preheat than it used to
- One side of the oven browns noticeably faster than the other
- The display resets, dims, or shows a fault code mid-cycle
- A red knob turns freely, feels gritty, or will not shut the gas off cleanly
03
On a typical visit
- Spark module, electrode and dual-stacked burner assembly replacement
- Burner port and orifice cleaning, then low-flame simmer calibration
- Oven sensor, thermostat and control board replacement with full recalibration
- Bake, broil and convection element replacement; convection fan motor service
- Gas valve service, leak testing and genuine Wolf knob replacement
04
What a Wolf technician checks first
- Each burner separately at both stages - full output and low simmer - rather than only the setting that failed
- Electrode gap and insulator condition on the burner that misbehaves, then the shared spark module under load
- Burner port and orifice condition, including the finer low-stage ports that clog first
- Gas pressure at the manifold, and the shut-off behaviour of every valve
- Real cavity temperature at three points with an independent probe, against the set point
- Both convection fans for speed and bearing noise, and both elements for continuity
- Door seal compression along its whole length, plus hinge tension, since a soft seal mimics a weak element
05
Parts: what this repair actually needs
Three parts cover most Wolf range repairs, and we carry all of them: spark modules, electrodes and oven temperature sensors. Burner caps, grates and the red knobs are cosmetic-but-genuine items we order to your exact model rather than fitting a lookalike, because the knob bezels and burner cap profiles changed between series. Control boards are the one component we usually order rather than stock - there are several revisions and fitting the wrong one costs you a second visit. If your range is a dual-fuel model, tell us when you call: the oven element and board differ from the all-gas version and it saves us a trip.
06
What Tampa does to this appliance
Two local factors show up in Wolf range calls more than anywhere else. The first is our summer storm season: afternoon lightning puts surges on the line, and the range control board takes them before you notice anything else in the house. If your oven started resetting or throwing codes after a storm week, that is the first thing we test. The second is simply how these kitchens are used - in South Tampa, Westchase and Carrollwood we see ranges that cook hard every night, and burner ports that are cleaned on the surface but never serviced underneath. Both are routine repairs when caught early and expensive rebuilds when they are not.
07
Keeping your Wolf out of trouble
- Lift the burner caps and clear the ports properly rather than wiping the surface - the low simmer ports clog long before the burner looks dirty.
- Do not run the self-clean cycle more often than you need; it is the cycle most likely to finish off a marginal door lock or relay.
- Check the oven against an independent thermometer once a year, because sensor drift is gradual enough that cooks adapt without noticing.
- Have the knobs and valves checked if any feel gritty - a valve that will not shut off cleanly is a safety matter rather than an annoyance.
- After a stormy week, watch for display resets; surge damage to the control board usually shows up days later rather than immediately.
08
Repair or replace: how we think about it
A Wolf range is built to be rebuilt. Burners, valves, igniters, spark modules, elements, fans, door hardware and control boards are all serviceable parts, and the chassis underneath them is heavy enough that the appliance is not the thing wearing out. Owners regularly get twenty years out of one, and the repairs along the way are small relative to what replacing a professional range costs once you include the hood, the gas line and the surround.
The exception worth naming is a range that has had a serious event - a fire, a flood, or a gas incident - where multiple systems need attention at once. There, the sum of the repairs is a genuine number and it deserves an honest comparison rather than an enthusiastic quote. Age alone is not a reason to replace a Wolf range; a stack of simultaneous failures is.
