Range Repair - Questions We Get Asked
The star geometry means one blocked point starves that arm of the flame while the rest looks fine. It needs a port-by-port service rather than a general clean, and that restores the even pattern.
Gentle cycling is normal - ExtraLow holds low temperatures by pulsing rather than by a constant tiny flame. Aggressive cycling or flame-out between pulses is the fault, and it is a valve calibration matter.
Shut the range off at the gas valve and stop using it. That pattern means the shared spark module has failed in a stuck state, which can release gas without igniting it.
That is useful information - each cavity has its own sensor, elements and relays, and the working cavity proves the shared control and supply are fine. It narrows the job considerably.
We carry the igniters, spark modules and sensors that fail most often. Star Burner caps and assemblies are ordered to your exact model, because the geometry is not interchangeable between series.
That points at the True Convection element, which fails silently because bake and broil keep working. A drifting sensor produces the same complaint, so we test both rather than assuming.

For more than 12 years our family has serviced Thermador kitchens across Tampa Bay. The patented Star Burner, Freedom induction and ExtraLow simmer systems all behave differently from ordinary appliances, and diagnosing them properly takes a technician who works on Thermador week in, week out. That is what you get here.

Tampa Bay is the only market we work in
Sterling Home Group has run out of Tampa since 2014. Not a franchise desk that routes your call to whoever is nearest — the same small group of technicians, in the same market, working on the same six brands every day.
- South Tampa, Westchase, Carrollwood, Brandon, Riverview and the Downtown and Harbour Island towers.
- Parts stocked for Tampa Bay kitchens, not shipped in after the visit.
- Technicians who know which buildings need a service elevator booked before the appointment.

Other Thermador repairs we handle
We work on Thermador and five other luxury brands, nothing else. That means the technician who arrives has seen your fault before, carries the parts that Thermador actually fails on, and is not learning the platform on your appliance. Thermador Range Repair in Tampa - what the job actually involves
Thermador invented the Star Burner, and that patented shape is not decoration - the star-point geometry spreads flame differently from any round burner, which is why these ranges simmer and sear the way they do. It also means they clog differently, and servicing one like an ordinary burner produces an ordinary result.

01
How Thermador ranges fail
The Star Burner has ports arranged along the points of a star rather than around a circle, and that geometry changes the failure pattern completely. When one leg of the star blocks, the flame starves along that arm while the rest of the burner looks normal - you see an uneven star rather than a weak ring. A general clean will not clear it, because the blockage is in specific ports that need working through individually. This is the single most common Thermador range call we attend.
ExtraLow is the other Thermador-specific system and the one most often misunderstood. It holds very low temperatures by pulsing the burner rather than holding a constant tiny flame, so gentle cycling on and off is normal and correct. What is not normal is aggressive cycling, or the flame dropping out entirely between pulses. That points at the valve or its control needing calibration rather than at a defective burner.
Ignition follows the shared-module pattern: individual electrodes, one spark module. A single clicking burner is an electrode or insulator problem on that burner; all burners clicking together - especially with the knobs off - is a module failure in a stuck state, and that is a stop-using-it condition rather than an inconvenience.
Pro Grand and Pro Harmony ovens use True Convection, which adds a third element around the fan. That element is invisible to a visual check and fails silently; the oven still heats on bake and broil, so the only symptom is that the evenness convection was providing has quietly gone. Because a drifting sensor produces an identical complaint, both need testing rather than one being assumed.
On the largest Pro Grand configurations there are two separate oven cavities, each with its own sensor, elements and relay set. Owners routinely report "the oven" is faulty when only one cavity is affected - and the healthy cavity is useful evidence, because it proves the shared control and power supply are working.

Problems we fix
- A Star Burner lights unevenly, with one arm of the star weak or dark
- ExtraLow cycles aggressively, or the flame drops out between pulses
- A burner clicks without lighting, or all burners click together
- Oven runs cold, or does not reach the set temperature
- Uneven baking despite convection running
- Only one cavity of a double oven is affected
- Control panel unresponsive or showing a fault code
- A knob or gas valve stiff, or not shutting off cleanly
03
On a typical visit
- Star Burner port cleaning, igniter and spark module replacement
- ExtraLow simmer calibration and valve service
- Oven sensor, thermostat and control board repair with recalibration
- Bake, broil and True Convection element replacement
- Gas valve service, leak testing and safety verification
04
What a Thermador technician checks first
- Each Star Burner port by port along every arm, not as a single ring
- Flame pattern across the full star after cleaning, before calling it done
- ExtraLow pulse behaviour through a full cycle rather than a snapshot
- Electrode and insulator on the affected burner, then the shared module
- Real cavity temperature at three rack positions in each cavity separately
- True Convection element continuity as a distinct test from the fan
- Every gas valve for clean shut-off, not only the one reported
05
Parts: what this repair actually needs
Igniters, electrodes, spark modules and oven sensors are stocked and resolve most Thermador range calls in one visit. Star Burner caps and burner assemblies are ordered to the exact model, because the star geometry differs between Pro Harmony and Pro Grand and a near-enough burner never produces the right flame pattern. Control boards are ordered by model and serial. For a double-cavity Pro Grand, telling us which cavity is affected when you book means we arrive with the right sensor and relay rather than discovering it on site.
06
What Tampa does to this appliance
Thermador ranges tend to end up in the larger kitchens around South Tampa, Westchase and Carrollwood, and those homes share a pattern worth knowing: the range is used hard, and the hood above it is frequently undersized for the burner output beneath. Grease-laden air that is not extracted settles straight back onto the cooktop, and on a Star Burner that residue works into the star points rather than sitting on a flat ring. That is the local accelerator behind most of the uneven-flame calls we attend, and it is why a proper port service on a Thermador takes longer than the same job on a conventional burner.
07
Keeping your Thermador out of trouble
- Service the Star Burner ports arm by arm rather than as a ring - one blocked point starves that leg while the rest looks fine.
- Keep hood filters clean; grease settling back onto a Star Burner works into the star points rather than sitting on top.
- Expect ExtraLow to pulse - gentle cycling is by design, aggressive cycling or flame-out is not.
- Check oven calibration annually in each cavity separately on a double oven.
- Have every valve checked for clean shut-off, not only the one that feels stiff.
08
Repair or replace: how we think about it
Thermador ranges repay repair for the same reason the rest of the professional category does: the expensive structure is the chassis, the cavity and the cooktop deck, and none of those are what fail. Star Burner components, valves, igniters, spark modules, elements, fans and door hardware are all parts, and a range that has become frustrating to cook on is usually two or three of them away from being right.
Replacement becomes worth discussing when several systems need attention at the same time on a unit that is already old - typically an oven that will not hold temperature, a cooktop with multiple failed valves and a control board on its way out. That combination is rare. One dead burner arm, an ExtraLow setting that drops out or an oven that bakes unevenly is not it.
