Chicagoland is the only market we work in

Sterling Home Group has run out of Chicago since 2014. Not a franchise desk that routes your call to whoever is nearest — the same small group of technicians, in the same market, working on the same six brands every day.

  • Lincoln Park, Hinsdale, Naperville, Oak Park, Schaumburg and the Streeterville and Gold Coast towers.
  • Parts stocked for Chicagoland kitchens, not shipped in after the visit.
  • Technicians who know which buildings need a service elevator booked before the appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which appliance brands do you service?

Sub-Zero, Wolf, Viking, Miele, Thermador and Gaggenau. That is the whole list, and it is deliberate - these platforms share almost nothing with mass-market appliances, and working on them daily is what makes a diagnosis quick instead of a guess.

Do you cover my area?

We cover Chicago, Evanston, Oak Park, Naperville and Hinsdale, plus the surrounding Chicagoland communities. If you are on the edge of that map, call and we will tell you honestly whether we can reach you the same day.

How fast can a technician get to me?

Call before noon and we usually reach you the same day. You get a real arrival window rather than an all-day wait, and a text confirmation before the technician heads out.

How does pricing work?

We diagnose the unit, then give you the exact price before any work starts. Nothing proceeds until you approve it, so there is no surprise at the end of the visit.

Do you carry parts on the truck?

We carry the components that fail most often on these six brands - igniters, spark modules, fans, thermistors, control boards, gaskets and pumps. That is why most visits finish in one appointment.

Are your technicians licensed and insured?

Yes. Every technician is licensed, trained and fully insured. Most of these appliances are gas-fired or built into custom cabinetry, so both the safety work and your home get handled properly.

What warranty do you offer?

Every repair carries a 2-year warranty on parts and labor. If the same fault returns within that period, we come back and put it right at no extra cost.

Are you affiliated with the manufacturers?

No. Sterling Home Group is an independent repair company. We are not affiliated with or authorized by Sub-Zero, Wolf, Viking, Miele, Thermador, Gaggenau or their parent companies.

Luxury appliance repair in Chicago - how we actually work

Sterling Home Group is an independent repair company working on six luxury appliance brands and nothing else. That restriction is the whole point: it is what lets a technician recognise your fault from the sound of it rather than working through a decision tree on your kitchen floor.

01

Why six brands and not sixty

A high-end kitchen is not a more expensive version of a mass-market one. Built-in refrigeration runs two separate sealed systems instead of one and moves air through ducting that lives inside the cabinetry. Professional ranges put out three or four times the heat of a standard range and use burner and valve designs that have no equivalent in the mid-market. European machines run their own control architecture, their own fault-code logic and their own service menus. None of that knowledge transfers from a Saturday spent on a builder-grade dishwasher.

So we made the list short on purpose. Sub-Zero, Wolf, Viking, Miele, Thermador and Gaggenau - six platforms, worked on every week, with the parts that actually fail on them riding in the van. The practical result is that most visits end in one appointment instead of a diagnosis today and a return trip in nine days once a part has shipped.

02

What a first visit looks like

You get an arrival window rather than a day-long wait, and a text before the technician leaves the previous job. On arrival the unit gets tested, not guessed at: temperatures measured at the point that matters, voltages and resistances read at the component rather than inferred from a symptom, fault history pulled where the platform keeps one. Only then do you get a price, and it is the price - nothing starts until you have approved it in full.

If the part is on the van, the repair happens the same visit. If it has to be ordered, you are told what it is, what it costs and realistically when it lands, before you commit to anything. Every repair carries a two-year warranty on parts and labor, and if the same fault comes back inside that window we come back with it.

03

What we will tell you honestly

Some repairs are not worth doing. A twenty-two-year-old unit with a failed compressor, corroded terminations and a discontinued control board is a conversation about replacement, not a quote. We would rather say that on the first visit than sell a repair that buys you eight months. The same applies in reverse: plenty of appliances that owners have been told to replace need a fan motor, a thermistor or a gasket, and we say that too.

We are also clear about what we are not. Sterling Home Group is independent. We are not affiliated with, authorized by or acting on behalf of any manufacturer, and we do not handle warranty claims on their behalf. What we offer is people who work on these six brands constantly, genuine parts, and work you can point at afterwards.

04

Where we go

Chicago proper, Evanston, Oak Park, Oak Park and Skokie make up the core of the service map, along with the surrounding Chicagoland communities - Hinsdale, Lincoln Park, Naperville, Schaumburg, Naperville, Wilmette, Glenview, Lake Forest, Glencoe and the lakefront communities on the North Shore.

Bridge traffic is real and we plan around it, which is why a Evanston call and a Oak Park call rarely land in the same window. If you are at the edge of the map, call and ask - you will get a straight answer about whether we can reach you the same day rather than a booking that quietly slips to next week.

05

What we do not do

We do not service mass-market brands. If the appliance is a GE, Whirlpool, LG, Samsung, Frigidaire or similar, we are not the right call and we will say so on the phone rather than send someone out to tell you in person. We also do not do HVAC, water heaters, garbage disposals or plumbing, and we do not take on commercial kitchen equipment.

We do not handle manufacturer warranty claims. Sterling Home Group is independent, so if your appliance is still inside its factory warranty the right first call is the manufacturer or the dealer who sold it - using us instead can cost you coverage you have already paid for. We will tell you that too, even though it means not taking the job.

And we do not quote over the phone as if a diagnosis had already happened. You can get a realistic range for a common fault on a known model, but the number that matters comes after the unit has been tested, and it comes before any work starts.

06

What rides in the van, and why it matters

The reason a specialist finishes in one visit is not talent, it is inventory. Because the brand list is short, the parts that actually fail on those six platforms fit in one vehicle: igniters, electrodes and spark modules, gas valves, evaporator and condenser fans, thermistors and sensors, defrost components, door gaskets and hinge hardware, drain and circulation pumps, spray arms, brew unit seal kits, grinder burrs and the control boards that fail most often.

A general repair company cannot carry that, because carrying it for forty brands would need a truck the size of a warehouse. So the pattern most owners of high-end appliances know well - a diagnosis on Tuesday, a part ordered, a return visit the following week - is not laziness. It is arithmetic. Narrowing the brand list is how we get around it.

When something genuinely does have to be ordered, you are told what it is, what it costs and when it will realistically arrive, in the same conversation as the diagnosis. Not afterwards, and not in instalments.

07

The calls we take most often

  • Built-in refrigerator running warm, freezing produce, or short-cycling in the afternoon heat
  • Professional range where one burner will not light, will not simmer, or clicks continuously
  • Wall oven that bakes unevenly, will not hold temperature, or has locked itself after self-clean
  • Dishwasher leaving grit, leaving water in the tub, or tripping a leak-protection system
  • Built-in coffee machine failing mid-brew, leaking inside the cabinet, or refusing the milk circuit
  • Wine storage drifting out of its band, fogging at the glass, or humming hard enough to reach the racks
08

What Chicagoland does to these machines

Chicago is unusually hard on appliances, and not in the way most people expect. The humidity loads every refrigeration system continuously - a condenser that would stay usable for years in a dry climate blankets over in a season here. Summer garage and kitchen temperatures push compressors and control boards to the top of their design range for months at a time. Coastal air corrodes terminations and condenser fins on anything within a few miles of the water. And storm season brings surges and generator switchover, which is why we see a wave of dead control boards every September rather than every January.

If you have a Sub-Zero, Wolf, Viking, Miele, Thermador or Gaggenau appliance that is not behaving, call and describe what it is doing. You will get a real answer about what it probably is, what it usually costs to put right, and when we can be there.
